Welcome to the Inside Business Best Places to Work in Hampton Roads 2010 Competition

The Competition

Best Places to Work, sponsored by Inside Business annually, honors companies in our community that go above and beyond to create a positive working environment for their employees. From helping employees be healthier to making sure they have fun at work, these companies go the extra mile.

Who is eligible?

Companies with more than 500 employees must enter as individual divisions or departments. Submissions for entire large entities with more than 500 employees will not be accepted. Companies must have at least 20 full time employees to be considered. Eligible companies or divisions will be given instructions for an online survey for their employees shortly after nominations are received.
Companies that have been designated in the top tier of their category for two consecutive years that they were eligible to compete will advance to the Best Places Hall of Fame and for the time being will not compete.

Companies will be honored in three categories:
Large: 251 to 500 employees
Mid-sized: 76 to 250 employees
Small: 20 to 75 employees

How to enter

To enter the competition, you must submit our online form before the Deadline for entries which is Tuesday, March 30. The judges request strict adherence to the form and do expect answers to specific questions.
If you have problems submitting this form, please contact us at inside.business@insidebiz.com.

Judging

Submissions will be evaluated by an independent panel of judges on the following aspects of the company:
  • Culture/Personality: Employee satisfaction, turnover/retention, work environment and community service
  • Family-Friendliness: Child care options, flexible scheduling, leave options
  • Reflection of the Community: Do employees at these companies mirror the community?
  • Compensation: Employee incentives and rewards, benefits/stock options
  • Employee Development: Training, opportunities for growth, mentoring and internship programs
We realize most companies will not excel in all categories. These criteria were designed to get people thinking about what it takes to be a great place to work.
